Dion Thelmas is a photographer, filmmaker, and writer whose work lives at the intersection of gritty realism and cinematic style. As both a director and Director of Photography, Thelmas builds worlds from the ground up—shaping story, image, and atmosphere with the same deliberate eye.
He is the creative force behind THE PORT, which he wrote, filmed, produced, and executive produced, as well as THE PORT series—projects that showcase his instinct for grounded, character-driven storytelling and bold visual choices. As a director and Director of Photography on the upcoming Donald Goines documentary, Thelmas brings a raw, immersive visual language to the life of one of America’s most uncompromising literary voices. He also served as Director of Photography on THE LAST 24, further cementing his reputation for tense, emotionally charged imagery.
With multiple new projects in motion, Dion Thelmas continues to push for work that feels lived-in, visually arresting, and unapologetically personal—building a body of films that carry his signature look and voice.
